Vienna International Seafood & Teppanyaki Restaurant

After a booking at Todai failed because it was too last minute, Makan Boy and I decided to head down to try Vienna since we were already switched on to buffet mode.

Pretty huge restaurant
Very posh interior
Very golden and royal looking tables and chairs
I think almost all their servers are Chinese nationals and there were only Chinese customers in the whole restaurant. It was almost full house when we were there as well and that means... we got to be quick to grab food!

Crayfish un-snatched and the rest pretty much gone.
I only managed to snap this one photo of the spread they have before the staff informed me that no photography is allowed. Anyway the crayfish wasn't nice. It was like powdery and pretty much untouched throughout the whole time I was there because I think everyone else knows what to snatch.

Fresh oysters!
Oysters for sure is the one that gets swept off pretty quickly from the ice the moment they are laid nicely there. It was fresh and Makan Boy loves oysters so much we went back and forth back and forth.

French Oyster
Tomato? Chilli? Vinegar?
French Oyster tasted alright. It was definitely something different but not quite sure as to what sauce it was that they soak the oysters in. Not amazing but not awful.

Super fresh and pretty prawns
Their sashimi was normal but for me, their boiled prawns was the winner of all seafood there! So fresh and the sweetness of the prawns was like sealed within those pretty shells. I had so many prawns I think I ate mostly prawns for this buffet. Kwa kwa kwa... what a waste of money.

Mango sauce over prawn and peach
The mango sauce and prawn goes together quite nicely but still it's nothing like Yum Cha's Mango and Prawn fritter which were so yummy!!

Their teppanyaki items
Their teppanyaki was very ordinary. I think the photo speaks a thousand words. Quite a disappointment since they are supposed to like "major" in teppanyaki?

Scallop, Cereal prawns and Crab with vermicelli
Their cereal prawns and crab with vermicelli managed to make the cut and tasted decent. Makan Boy thinks the crab and vermicelli is yummy. The scallop was however, forgettable.

Shark's fin soup (above) and Crocodile meat herbal soup (below)
And what's chinese cuisine without shark's fin soup and exotic meat soup? Of course, there was no shark's fin used and instead there were plenty of shredded crab meat and enoki mushrooms. Didn't try the crocodile meat but Makan Boy thinks it was not bad.

Not hiding where it's from!
I got confused when I walked to the desserts area and saw the pandan kaya and mango mousse cakes from Bengawan Solo. I think it's the first time I've been to a buffet restaurant that actually used another shop's cake for their desserts. They have some test tube drinks too which I think was there simply to make the kids excited. Tried one blue colour don't-know-what-flavour test tube drink and it was awful. Yucks.

Most of what we ate tasted pretty average and there was just too many people squeezing through the narrow lanes to get the food. Therefore, paying over $40 per person for their buffet to enjoy only that few commendable items in a "rush-and-go-get-it-now-before-it's-gone!" kinda atmosphere is quite a bad experience I would say.

Dian Xiao Er

It was mummy's birthday and it didn't take her long to decide on Dian Xiao Er for lunch as her birthday treat with the family!

Dian Xiao Er
Really long walkway
I haven't been to the other Dian Xiao Er outlets, but this one at Jurong Point is huge! Just for their main entrance alone, they already used like 1/4 of the whole restaurant and there are still plenty of seats inside! Of course, their theme is really cool and I love the ambience!

Broad beans
They put in a whole lot of effort in designing their menu as you can see and read...

Loving the manual menu !
Makes me feel eating their duck is wholesome awesome!
We started off with Fish Maw Thick Soup with Black Fungus which basically have the same soup base as shark's fin soup. I've always liked shark's fin soup not because of the fins but because of the thick and saltish broth which is oh-so-yummy. It's ridiculous how Chinese thinks eating shark's fin is a sign to show their status when shark's fins are not even delicious in the first place without this tasty soup base!! Not to mention, the massacre of sharks just for their fins is a pathetic practice that should be frowned upon.

Fish Maw Thick Soup with Black Fungus ($30)
Plenty of fish maw...
... and crab meat!
There's nothing not to love about their fish maw soup! The soup was cooked just right to a starchy texture that was not too salty and thick. The generous amount of seafood were also a pleasant surprise. Enjoyed the soup very much! Must try!

Although the soup took a while to arrive, the remaining dishes followed one after another in no time which were great for my growling stomach!

Chinese Spinach Superior Stock ($17)
As simple as the vegetable is, the chef did a great job whipping it up to taste like a million bucks. With the dried shredded scallops and really awesome stock with wolfberries, the ikan billis added also gave a heavenly touch to lift the aroma of the sweet and fragrant chinese spinach cooked in superior stock.

Braised Mushroom in Chinese Wine ($16.50)
This was the least spectacular dish overall. Oyster mushrooms in a very light gravy that has a slight tinge of Chinese Wine. There was also too much ginger added making it my least favourite dish for the lunch. Kinda expensive too for such cheap mushrooms that are readily available in all supermarkets.

Dong Po Pork ($18.80)
Dong Po pork is well known for it's really tender and fatty pork belly with a melt in your mouth sensation. Dian Xiao Er's one was well braised but the meat was abit tough still.
Last but not least, their signatures are their ducks which comes in three different styles - each with different health properties and benefits.

Great menu for calories conscious customer?
And for each of their dishes, they would indicate the amount of calories which is really impressive cause they really do make sure you know what you are eating with such health considerations for each dish! They also have 3 sizes for almost all their dishes - small, medium or large!

Duck Roasted with Ten Wonder Herbs ($41)
You can choose to have half of the duck in another style but we chosed the whole duck in ten wonder herbs.

Crispy shiny glossy tasty yummy!
This is indeed the dish you must order while at Dian Xiao Er. My favourite has gotta be this! Really well roasted with a supreme flavour and great taste! Not to mention, the duck was very crispy and the meat wasn't too dry making it easy to bite through. Truly enjoyable together with the saltish soya sauce that has a very nice herbal taste!

Except for the whole duck and soup, all the other dishes were of medium portion for around 7 of us. More than enough food and I left feeling really satisfied from good chinese food! Service was pretty prompt too and the duck and soup made me a very happy girl! =D
